Is there anything more satisfying than watching someone's plan backfire?

Ten years after a messy breakup, a woman unexpectedly reunites with her ex at a gathering with mutual friends. He spends the evening putting on an over-the-top display with his new girlfriend, seemingly trying to get a reaction. Instead, one perfectly timed comment reminds him of a detail from their past, leaving him suddenly quiet for the rest of the night.

Romantic relationships can sometimes be heartbreaking and leave one of the two involved with a lot of pain. That, of course, can cause resentment for the other person and lead to wishing them the worst. That's exactly how this ex-boyfriend felt when the OP left him ten years ago. That was a long time since the breakup until the moment they got reunited because of a mutual friend.

The OP was expecting to see him, and she knew he was going to be there with his new girlfriend, which she didn't mind. However, once everyone was at the event, he made a fool out of himself, screaming and telling everyone how amazing this girl was, all of it to make the OP feel jealous and bad about losing him. As you can imagine, she didn't mind it at all.

Instead of feeling embarrassed, she decided to teach him a lesson and told him a phrase that left him frozen and totally mute. She left the party feeling empowered and great about herself. Although meeting an ex after a long time can be nerve-wracking, it sometimes reminds us why we broke up and how much better we are without them.

  • And having this kinda or power, even though it was small, surely seemed like a victory against his weird behavior. He spent the rest of evening quietly talking with other people or being really cautious around me and I had so much fun without him trying to rub our faces on it all the time.
